Funeral Mass for Gerald Bradley will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Rev. Monsignor R. Mark Duchaine presiding and the Rev. Edward Girres co-celebrating. Homilist will be Father James Bruch. Visitation will be Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Hawarden at a later date.
Gerald Thomas Bradley was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Ulysses, Neb., the son of Stephen and Margaret (McGowan) Bradley. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School and went on to attend Iowa State Teacher’s College. He later obtained a Specialist Degree in Administration from the University of South Dakota.
On Aug. 31, 1957, Gerald was married to Judith Duchaine at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. After their marriage they lived in Bloomington, Ind., where Gerald obtained his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Indiana. He began teaching in Marcus, then Correctionville and later moved to Hawarden where he was Superintendent at West Sioux High School. He later went to Harris Lake Park High School before retiring in 1997. Gerald was also a crop adjuster for the Rain and Hail Insurance Company for over 30 years.
Family was very important to Gerald and he enjoyed spending as much of his free time with them. He also enjoyed playing golf and was proud of his 100 percent Irish heritage.
Gerald died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa. He was 81.
He is survived by his wife, Judith of Algona; children, Paul Bradley and Barb Marvel of Concord, Calif.; Julia and Mark Degen of Ireton; Greg and Maria Bradley of Algona; Timothy Bradley of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; Shannon Bradley of Altoona; 13 grandchildren: Erica and Micah Bonderson, Rory and Grant Degen; Blair, Blake and Bryce Bradley; Nicholas and Rachel Bradley; Shelby Opdahl, Jamie, Caden and Tommy Lauck; five great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kate, Kora and Kinley Bonderson and Bryan Degen; a sister, Mary Margaret Wolters of Estherville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brock Bradley; three brothers, Jack, Dan and Chuck Bradley and a brother-in-law, Don Wolters.
