TITONKA — Funeral services for Erwin Post were celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Titonka with the Rev. S. Kim Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Erwin Eldon Post was born on the family farm in rural Titonka on Feb. 14, 1932, the third son of Evert and Annie (Kettwich) Post. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Titonka, where he was a lifelong member. He attended school at German Township #7. Following his schooling, Erwin farmed with his father for several years. In February 1953 - one day before his 21st birthday - Erwin was drafted into the U.S. Army. His service included one year in Korea as a communications specialist. He was honorably discharged in February 1955.
Upon his return from military service, Erwin continued to farm with his father. On Nov. 16, 1955, he married Troyce Bruns at Immanuel. The couple moved into the farmhouse that would be their home for 52 years. They farmed and raised an array of livestock. Erwin and Troyce were blessed to be parents of four sons and four daughters.
In April 2007, Erwin and Troyce moved from the farm to Titonka. They lived there until the spring of 2016, when both became residents of Titonka Care Center.
Erwin died peacefully at the Care Center on Nov. 1, 2017. He was 85 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Troyce; children David (Sherri) Post, Titonka; Mary (Mark) Bower, Coon Rapids; JoAnn Post (James Nieman), Northbrook, Ill.; Janet (Doug) Greene, Marion; John (Karen) Post, Coon Rapids, Minn.; Stephen Post (Kris), Davenport; Paul (Nancy) Post, Cedar Falls, and Carolyn Post, San Francisco. Also 15 grandchildren: Brooke Anderson (Keenan Bakken), Hannah (Jordan) Leuschen, Kaitlin Anderson, Hannah Bower, Ross (Jordan) Bower, Clara (Joseph Malack) Nieman, Madelene Nieman, Leah (Derek) Ratliffe, Benjamin Post, Nicole Post, Ryan Post, Alyssa (Nathan) Dick, Hannah Culbertson, Joshua Post and Maximillian Bormann; and one great grandson, Kaleb Dick. Also surviving are a sister Berneice (DeWayne) Maass, Buffalo Center; brother-in-law, LeRoy Bruns, Titonka; sister-in-law Amanda Bruns, Titonka; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Annie Post; sister, Viona (Wilbur) Welhousen; brother Melvin (Berneice) Post; brother Arthur (Marvella) Post; and sister-in-law Sandra Bruns.
Erwin will be remembered as a man of faith, a husband, a father and a farmer.
