Edward P. “Black” Illg

Edward P. “Black” Illg, 81, of Cainsville, Mo. (formerly of Bode,) passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Harrison County Community Hospital, Bethany, Mo. 
He was born Aug. 8, 1935, on the home place in Riverdale Township the sixth child of Arthur and Rosalia (Bormann) Illg. 
Edward attended the St. Joseph’s Catholic School in St. Joseph, graduating in May of 1953. He worked on the family farm until his enlistment in the United States Navy, serving from Jan. 2, 1956, to Oct. 23, 1957. He served on the USS Bennington CB820 North Island, San Diego. 
After returning from service he again went back to farming. In 1973, he moved to Cainsville, Mo., to farm. He also served as a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau Board. He was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed attending weekly cattle auctions, daily coffee at the dinner bell and sharing his candy stash with his grandkids.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Rosalia; siblings, Lucille, Francis, Harold, George, and Alice; and brothers-in-law, Roger Andersen and Edward McGuire.
Survivors include his sons, Randal Illg, Chris (Susan) Illg, and Marcus Illg all of Cainsville, Mo.; grandchildren, Soyer, Brekk, Maryn and Addisyn; sisters, Marjorie (Art) Winkel, Dorothy McGuire, Alma Anderson, Rosa Lee (Richard) McGuire; brothers, Donald (Joyce) Illg, Ronald (Agnes) Illg; in-laws, NormaLee Illg, Phyllis Illg, Marty Illg and Mark Kollasch; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. Burial followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph. 
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo., and from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, with Rosary being held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in care of Roberson Funeral Home, PO Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
