A funeral Mass for Edward Blocker, of Bancroft was held Oct. 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Edward Henry Blocker was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Bancroft, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Hellman) Blocker. He grew up on a farm near Bancroft and attended St. John’s Catholic School. Ed was united in marriage to Sylvia Klein on May 3, 1949, in Ashton.
Ed and Sylvia raised their 10 children on the Blocker family farm west of Bancroft. Along with farming, Ed was a Pioneer Seeds salesman from 1971 until 1990. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid baseball fan cheering for the Minnesota Twins. He loved being with his family, especially enjoying 20 plus years of annual fishing trips together in northern Minnesota. Ed was a very faithful man. He served on the Bancroft Creamery board for many years and was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Edward H. Blocker died Oct. 6, 2021, at the Accura Healthcare Center in Bancroft at the age of 97. He had been a resident there since May, 2021.
He is survived by his children, David (Rita) Blocker of Mohall, N.D., Jim (Omie) Blocker of Saratoga, Wyo., Allan Blocker of Sheldon, Richard (Teresa) Blocker of Algona, Joseph (Gail) Blocker of Hartford, S.D., Phillip (Bobie) Blocker of Bancroft, Carol (Steve) Shillington of Bancroft, Ronald (Paula) Blocker of Wallingford, and Mark (Kathy) Blocker of Bancroft; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia, on May 27, 2017; his daughter, Donna Saline, in 2008; a daughter-in-law, Candace Blocker; grandson Matthew Blocker; granddaughters Sara Blocker and Ryane Blocker; great-granddaughter Penelope Lawrence; one sister, Bertha Elsbecker; and five brothers, Arthur, Lawrence, Joe, Maurice and Leo Blocker.
