Edna Hanselman, age 100 of Algona formerly of LuVerne, passed away Wednesday April 5, 2017, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services were held on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, with the Rev. Eric Hauan officiating. Burial took place at LuVerne Cemetery in LuVerne. Visitation was held until the time of the services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.
Edna Luella Hanselman, the daughter of Lewis and Amelia (Nelson) Olson, was born on June 12, 1916, on the family farm outside of Livermore, Iowa. She attended country school outside of Livermore and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School in 1934. On Jan. 5, 1936, Edna married Edwin George Hanselman at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. After their marriage the couple lived on their farm where Edna was a devoted homemaker. They lived on the farm until moving into LuVerne in 1973.
For 30 years, Edna and Edwin enjoyed spending their winters at Magic Valley Park in Weslaco, Texas. She loved crocheting Afghans for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, making quilts for her children, walking and biking. Edna was a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore and currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. She was a member of LWML where she was very active and had served as a district officer. 
Left to cherish Edna’s memory is her children, Vera (Keith) Voss of LuVerne, Paul (Darlene) Hanselman of LuVerne, Laurie (Dennis) Page of Osceola and Lynn Gorney of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, LaRue Hanselman of Algona; 12 grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and fourteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; son, Vernon Hanselman; grandson, Scott Hanselman; son-in-law, Jerry Crawford; two brothers, Henry and Earl Olson; and seven sisters, Olive Olson, Lila Nelson, Agnes Soli, Rhoda Brockman, Aleda Hanselman, Myrtle Hanselman and Mable DeGroote.
