Funeral Mass for Donald Preuschl was celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley with the Rev. Peter Nguyen presiding. Burial was in the St. Benedict Cemetery.
Donald Lawrence Preuschl was born Nov. 4, 1937, in St. Benedict, the son of John “Hans” and Louise (Arend) Preuschl. He attended school in LuVerne and graduated from the LuVerne High School in 1955.
After his schooling he began farming with his father. He later enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and served in the 194th Artillery Unit. He served for six years.
On April 11, 1964, Don married Judith Tripp at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. They lived and farmed near St. Benedict, where they also raised their five children. Judith died Oct. 16, 1995. Don was later married to Carol Gremmer Brunsen on June 29, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley.
Don enjoyed John Deere tractors, antique tractor pulls, stock car racing, fishing trips to Canada and traveling to Las Vegas.
Don died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. He was 79.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Preuschl of Wesley; children, Daniel (Molly) Preuschl of Algona; Jerry (Deb) Preuschl of Sexton; Dean (Monica) Preuschl of Whittemore; Dana (Misty) Preuschl of Algona; step-children, Brian (Donna) Brunsen of Waterloo; Brenda (TJ) Brandt of Titonka; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Danielle, Jadon, Erynn, Kayla and Kolby Preuschl. Also surviving are siblings, LeRoy (Teresa) Preuschl of Garner; Dorene (Gene) Jakoubek of Britt; Julie (Gerald) Goodman of Rochester, Minn.; Stella (Stanley) Huber of Urbandale and many nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Judith; son, Donald John Preuschl and a brother, Gerald Preuschl.
