Donald “Marty” Meyer, age 85 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home in hospice at Perry. 
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. with a Vigil service held at 7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Adel. Memorials will be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
Donald “Marty” Martin Meyer was born on June 30, 1931, at Lotts Creek, to Martin F. and Malinda (Schmidt) Meyer. He graduated from Lone Rock High School. He married Donna Lucille St. John at Oceanside, Calif., in the St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Oct. 24, 1952. He worked for North Central Public Service Company at Algona, and then moved to Perry in 1968. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Perry Elk’s Club and the Blue Flame Gas Association. Donald served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. While living at Algona he served on the fire department and served as the assistant fire chief. He enjoyed woodworking, helping some of his friends on the farm, hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis in infancy and Wayne.
He is survived by his wife Donna Meyer, children, Becky (Kim) Whiton, Mediapolis, Blaine (Diane) Meyer, Temple, Texas, Karen (Randal) Goughnour, Omaha, Neb., Craig (Becky) Meyer Pella and Scott Meyer, Pella, eight grandsons, four granddaughters, two great grandchildren, siblings, Joanne (Herb) Hackbarth, Spirit Lake, Janice (Merv) Hentges, LeSueur, Minn., Helena Johnson, Littleton, Colo. and Linda (Ken) Ring, Grand Forks, N.D.
