Bulldogs win game in double overtime

Lead Summary

What a way to end the season on Senior Night!  The Algona Bulldog football team defeated the Spencer Tigers 31-24 in double overtime at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Oct. 20.
The loss crushed the playoff hopes of the Tigers as they were in driver’s seat coming into the contest for the runner-up spot in the district but a gutty, hard-fighting red-and-black squad would have none of that in earning their biggest victory of the year.
“Our kids really laid it all out on the line and they never gave up until the final buzzer,” said Algona Coach Andy Jacobson.  “We talked all week about how this was going to be a playoff-like setting.  It was neat to watch them celebrate at the end of the game.
“The leadership that our seniors have provided all year long really showed tonight on the field.  It was a great way to send them out and I think they will probably remember this game for a while.  I am so proud of the way they have battled all year long and this was a fitting ending.”
