Bulldogs open substate play with win

ALGONA—Algona opened Class 3A substate tournament play on Monday, Feb. 22, at home against Boone, and the red-and-black defeated the Toreadors by the score of 50-42.
The Bulldogs improved to 16-6 overall while Boone ended the season at 6-15. Algona will host the Humboldt Wildcats tonight (Thursday). The squads split a pair of regular season meetings as the red-and black won a 61-58 decision at home on Dec. 15 but dropped a 60-48 contest at Humboldt on Jan. 26. The winner of that contest will play in the substate final on Monday evening.
