Algona wins ranked battle; seeks district crown Friday

 ALGONA—Algona took a huge step toward a district title as the No. 3 ranked Bulldogs defeated eighth-ranked Spirit Lake 30-24 in a key Class 2A district battle played on Friday, Oct. 12.
The home team built a two-touchdown lead in both the first and second half only to see the Indians tie the game up with 2:55 to play, but the high-powered Algona offense responded by going 83 yards in nine plays for the winning score.
Pass completions of 14 and 15 yards got the football near midfield before Jacob Durant gained 12 yards to put the ball at the visitors’ 42-yard line.
