Algona girls basketball team cruises past Iowa Falls-Alden

Algona jumped out to big first quarter advantage and never looked back in cruising to a 57-28 North Central Conference girls’ basketball victory over the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in a game played at Algona High on Friday, Jan. 6.
Abbey Holmes nailed a three-pointer to open the game’s scoring and Aliyah Buscher immediately followed with a steal and a lay-up for a quick 5-0 advantage for the home team.
Taylor Vanatter got the visitors on the scoreboard with two minutes gone in the game.  The red-and-black finished the first period on a 10-0 run to hold a commanding 15-2 lead at the end of the stanza.
The second period saw numerous turnovers as Madelyn Juhl hit a free throw for the Cadets before the Bulldogs had a 9-0 run with a three-pointer from Holmes and two points each from Maddie Miller, Janna Julius and Buscher to extend the lead to 24-3.
