50th middle school science fair adds award

Lead Summary

The Science Fair will be a special night at the Algona Middle School Thursday, Feb. 13. Not only will middle school students showcase their science projects, this year's event is the 50th anniversary, and a new award will be presented to a student in honor of longtime science advocate, the Rev. Walt Reemtsma.
The  Walt Reemtsma Perseverance award will be presented to a student who shows the most perseverance in his or her project. "They went through many challenges and stayed with it, worked through it successfully, presented their science project," said Megan Rasmussen, who, along with Holly Waltz, worked with students in grades five through eight to prepare for the science fair.
