AHS boys win five events at Riverhawk Invitational

MASON CITY—Competing against a field of mainly Class 4A teams for the second straight meet, the Algona Bulldog boys’ track team won five events on Monday, April 24 at the Riverhawk Invitational.

The red-and-black finished in second place in the eight team field with 165.5 points that was topped only by Mason City’s total of 182 points.

Gavin Weber runs personal best at Waukee

 

 

WAUKEE—Freshman Gavin Weber ran a personal best to highlight the performances of the Algona Bulldog boys’ track team at the Waukee Relays on Thursday, April 20.

Weber crossed the finish line in fourth place in the 1,600-meter run with a season-best time of 4:34.88. The red-and-black placed eighth in the 15-team field with 37 points in a meet held for the final chance to qualify for the Drake Relays.

Bulldog girls win three relays at Humboldt

HUMBOLDT—Winning gold medals in three different relays highlighted the performances of the Algona Bulldog girls’ track squad at the Humboldt Relays held on Monday, April 24 at Mason Mauch Field.

The red-and-black ended up in third place in the eight-team field in the team standings with a team total of 98.5 points.

Time for a little dirt track racing

ALGONA—With the temperatures rising the past week, dirt track weekly racing at the Kossuth County Speedway cannot be far away.

If you drove past the track the past week, you could see the big yellow grader and water truck making laps around the track to whip the oval into racing shape.

Algona girls host Hannover Relays

ALGONA—On Tuesday, April 11 at Bulldog Field, the Algona Bulldog girls’ track squad hosted eight other schools, including Bishop Garrigan in the annual Hannover Relays.

The red-and-black ended up in fifth place in the team standings with 96 points as the Golden Bears finished seventh with 59 points while Fort Dodge High won the team title with 111 points.

Algona boys win Dick Barrett Relays

ESTHERVILLE—Running in the longest held track meet in Iowa, the Algona Bulldog boys’ track team won first place with 122 points in the 102nd running of the annual Dick Barrett Relays on Friday, April 14.

The red-and-black won five events during the meet, including a 122’ 7” throw in the discus from freshman Max Nevitt along with a 4:42.8 time by classmate Gavin Weber in the 1,600-meter run.

Warrior girls’ golf squad hosts Algona, E-LC

BANCROFT—The North Union Warrior girls’ golf squad entertained both Algona and Estherville-Lincoln Central in a non-conference triangular held on Friday, April 14 at the North Kossuth Golf Club.

The Midgettes took first place with a team score of 208 as Algona finished second with a score of 214, the same total as third place North Union’s score of 214.

Sam Fehr places third at Raider Relays

SAC CITY—Sam Fehr’s third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.71 highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team at the Raider Relays on Friday, April 14.

The purple-and-golf ended the night with a team total of 32 points to take eighth place in the team standings in the 10-team field.

Prochniak wins 100-meter dash

SPIRIT LAKE—Senior Bryer Prochniak won the 100-meter dash in 11.23 to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior boys’ track team at the Spirit Lake Co-Ed Relays on Tuesday, April 11.

The green-black-and-silver ended up in eighth place in the team standings in the nine-team field with a team total of 22 points.

Placing third was the 4 x 100-meter relay quartet of Landon Price, Carter Morphew, Preston Guerdet and Prochniak with a time of 45.00.

Prochniak double winner at Barrett Relays

ESTHERVILLE—Bryer Prochniak was double winner to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior and Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys’ track teams on Friday, April 14 at the Dick Barrett Relays.

The Warriors finished in seventh place in the 12-team field with a team total of 29 points while the black-and-gold ended up in ninth place with 14 points.

North Union boys’ golfers defeat Algona, E-LC

ALGONA—In a non-conference triangular boys’ golf meet held on Friday, April 14 at the Algona Country Club, the North Union Warriors picked up a pair of wins.

The green-black-and-silver had the low score of the day with a 182 to narrowly edge Estherville-Lincoln Central with a 183 and Algona took third with a 197.

North Union boys take huge league win

ARMSTRONG—The North Union Warrior boys’ golf team picked up a huge Top of Iowa Conference victory on Thursday, April 13 at the Country Greens Golf Course.

The green-black-and-silver edged last year’s league champion Lake Mills 172-174 as Belmond-Klemme finished third with a score of 196.

Chase Cummins of North Union earned the medalist honor with his nine-hole score of 40 as Ashton Wilms of Belmond-Klemme took the runner-up medal with his total of 41.

WB-M girls win Lady Bison Relays

BUFFALO CENTER—Taking first place in the annual Lady Bison Relays in Class B on Thursday, April 13 with a team score of 157 points was the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad.

The purple-and-gold won six events, including a trio of relays. Individual gold medal winners were Maddie Fehr in the 100-meter dash in 14.06 and Tiffany Fehr in both shot put with a toss of 31’ 5¼” and the 400-meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:15.44.

Warrior girls run at Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE—Running for the second straight evening, the North Union Warrior girls’ track squad competed in the Spirit Lake Co-Ed Relays on Tuesday, April 11.

The green-black-and-silver finished in fifth place in the team standings in the six-team field with their team score of 44 points.

North Union boys host Tom Elliott Relays

ARMSTRONG—The North Union Warrior boys’ track team hosted six other teams on Monday, April 17 in the annual Tom Elliott Relays.

The green-black-and-silver won a total of five events to finish in third place in the team standings with 91 points as West Bend-Mallard ended up in fourth place with a team score of 87 points.

Colin Rasch won the shot put with his winning heave of 46’ 4½” while teammate Bryer Prochniak sprinted to the title in the 100-meter dash in 11.13.
