Eischen, Slagle power Algona past Cardinal

GARNER—Jensen Eischen and Tate Slagle both had big nights to help lead the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team to an 8-5 non-conference victory on Tuesday, June 13 over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals.

Eischen came on in relief to pitch 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win to go along with two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in a pair of RBI.

Golden Bears blank Central Springs 15-0

 

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan scored in every inning on Tuesday, June 13 in a 15-0, four-inning non-conference baseball victory over the Central Springs Panthers.

The black-and-gold pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first, tacked on six more in the second, added three tallies in the third stanza and ended the contest early with four runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.

North Union runs past Bison 10-0

BANCROFT—A huge seven-run fourth inning led the North Union Warriors’ baseball team to a 10-0, six-inning Top of Iowa Conference win on Wednesday, June 14 over the North Iowa Bison.

The green-black-and-silver also scored a single run in the first stanza and ended the contest early with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the sixth frame.

Shaylie Walders belts two homers in Warriors’ victory

SWEA CITY—Eighth-grader Shaylie Walders belted the first two home runs of her career to help lead the North Union Warriors’ softball squad to an 11-0, five-inning Top of Iowa Conference win over the North Iowa Bison on Wednesday, June 14.

Walders also ripped a two-bagger in the contest while teammate Emily Meyer added a single, a double and a home run.

Poky shuts out Wolverines’ JV 17-0

WEST BEND—Pocahontas Area scored in all five innings in a 17-0 victory on Tuesday, June 13 over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ junior varsity squad.

The visitors plated five tallies in both the first and fourth innings, scored four times in the second; added two more in the third frame and a single run in the top of the fifth stanza in the win.

No. 2 Central Springs Panthers edge Golden Bears 12-9

ALGONA—Second-ranked Central Springs built an early 11-0 lead and had to hold off a huge rally by the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears on Tuesday, June 13 in non-conference softball play as the Panthers held on for a 12-9 victory.

The visitors plated four runs in both the first and third innings and three more tallies in the fourth for an early 11-0 advantage.

Horejsi wins Dirt Crown Stock Car Special

ALGONA—Almost to the day, it had been 21 years since Jim Horejsi of Marshall, Minn. pulled his No. 21 stock car into victory lane at the Kossuth County Speedway.

But Horejsi was the winner of the $2,000 to win $200 to start, Dirt Crown Stock Car Special at the oval to highlight an exciting evening of dirt track racing on Thursday, June 15.

Humboldt rallies past Bulldogs 8-7

HUMBOLDT—Humboldt remained undefeated in North Central Conference baseball play on Monday, June 19 by rallying for an 8-7 victory over the Algona Bulldogs.

Algona grabbed an early 5-0 advantage in the top of the second inning with the big blow coming on a grand slam home run off the bat of Tate Slagle.

The home team responded with three runs in the bottom of the stanza, but the red-and-black answered with two more runs in the top of the third frame to build a 7-2 lead.

Golden Bears improve to 10-1 in conference

EAGLE GROVE—Six runs on the fourth inning and eight more in the seventh blew open a close game as Bishop Garrigan rolled to a 21-6 Top of Iowa Conference baseball win on Monday, June 19 over the Eagle Grove Eagles.

The black-and-gold jumped out to 4-1 lead at the end of the second stanza and held a 6-4 advantage after three before scoring six times in the fourth to build their lead to 12-4.

North Union tops Eagles 8-2

BANCROFT—North Union picked up a Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory on Monday, June 19 with an 8-2 win over the West Hancock Eagles at the Bancroft Memorial Park.

The green-black-and-silver scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings along with two runs in the fifth stanza while the visitors scored their only tally of the contest in the top of the fourth inning.

Emmetsburg shutouts out Wolverines 10-0

EMMETSBURG—Emmetsburg rapped out 11 hits in a 10-0, six-inning Twin Lakes Conference baseball victory on Friday, June 16 over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines team.

The E-Hawks broke a scoreless dead-lock in the third inning with four runs. The home team added one run in the fourth, three tallies in the fifth and ended the contest early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth stanza.

Golden Bears improve to 9-2 in league play

EAGLE GROVE—Bishop Garrigan firmly held their spot in second place in the Top of Iowa Conference softball standings on Monday, June 19 with a 10-1 league win over the Eagle Grove Eagles.

The black-and-gold scored once in the opening stanza and scored twice in the third stanza for an early 3-0 advantage.

The visitors added single runs in both the fourth and sixth frames before blowing the conference contest open in the seventh inning with five more tallies.

No. 4 E-LC too strong for Golden Bears

ALGONA—Fourth-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central showed why they are undefeated on the year on Thursday, June 15 with an 11-0, five-inning non-conference softball victory over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears.

The red-and-white improved to 20-0 on the year with the win as pitcher Tatum Delany pitched a one-hitter and fanned nine black-and-gold batters.
