Top-ranked Knights shutout Bishop Garrigan 10-0

MASON CITY—Top-ranked Mason City Newman pounded out 10 hits enroute to a 10-0, six-inning non-conference baseball victory on Tuesday, June 20 over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears.

The Knights scored one run in the first inning along with two tallies in the third, fifth and sixth frames and three more in the fourth stanza in the victory.

G-H/Ventura defeats Warriors 10-8

GARNER—North Union made a great comeback but fell two runs short on Tuesday, June 20 in a 10-8 Top of Iowa Conference baseball loss to the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals.

The Cardinals built a 9-0 advantage after five innings of play before the green-black-and-silver got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the sixth stanza.

Bulldogs earn 4-3 victory over Mason City

MASON CITY—Algona scored the winning run in the top of the sixth inning to earn a solid 4-3 non-conference baseball win on Friday, June 16 over a good Mason City River-hawks squad.

Alex Manske singled in the sixth frame and stole second base. He later scored the winning run when Tate Slagle’s fly ball was dropped in the outfield.

Wildcats nip Algona 5-3 in NCC softball

HUMBOLDT—Humboldt scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and went onto a 5-3 North Central Conference softball victory on Monday, June 19 over the Algona Bulldogs.

The home team scored first in the contest in the bottom of the first inning on three singles to take an early 2-0 advantage.

Algona tied the game up in the top of the third. Casey VanOtterloo led off the stanza with a single and Tora Solbach was hit-by-a-pitch.

Wolverines rally past G-T/R-A 4-3

RUTHVEN—In a back-and-forth Twin Lakes Conference baseball game on Wednesday, June 14, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines rallied to earn a hard-fought 4-3 decision over the G-R/R-A Titans.

The home team scored first in the contest with a single run in the bottom of the second before the Wolverines pushed across a run in the top of third frame.

E-Hawks defeat WB-M JV softball team 8-5

EMMETSBURG—Emmetsburg defeated the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ junior varsity softball squad by the score of 8-5 on Friday, June 16.

The home team scored first in the contest in the bottom of the first inning on two hits, one hit batter and pair of errors by West Bend-Mallard.

Golden Bears stay in first place with 7-0 win

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan remained alone atop the baseball standings on Friday, June 16 in the Top of Iowa Conference with a 7-0 shutout win over the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

Andrew Fogarty was sharp on the mound as he tossed all seven frames to earn the victory. The senior right-hander allowed no runs on just three hits while fanning 10 batters and issuing two base-on-balls.

Alta-Aurelia routs Wolverines 19-1

GILMORE CITY—Alta-Aurelia scored in every inning in a 19-1, four-inning Twin Lakes Conference baseball victory over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines on Monday, June 19.

The Warriors plated eight runs in the first inning, pushed across five more in the second before adding two runs in the third stanza and four in the fourth to end the contest early as the purple-and-gold’s only run came in the first.

Warriors fall to Forest City 8-1

FOREST CITY—Tommy Miller fanned 14 batters to lead the Forest City Indians’ baseball team to an 8-1 Top of Iowa Conference victory on Friday, June 16 over the North Union Warriors.

The home team scored three times in the bottom of the first inning for an early 3-0 advantage. The red-and-white added another tally in the third to increase their lead to 4-0.

Golden Bears outslug Lake Mills 12-8

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan pounded out 18 hits and needed every one of them as they out-slugged Lake Mills 12-8 on Friday, June 16 in a key Top of Iowa Conference softball contest.

The home team scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning before Lake Mills tallied four times in the top of the third stanza, and the black-and-gold got one of them back in the bottom of the frame.

North Union remains perfect in conference play

FOREST CITY—Playing the second half of the Top of Iowa Conference softball schedule, the North Union Warriors remained perfect with a 12-0, four-inning victory over the Forest City Indians on Friday, June 16.

The green-black-and-silver scored four runs in the first inning along with three runs in both the second and third frames and ended the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth stanza.

Saint Ansgar edges Bulldogs 5-4

SAINT ANSGAR—A late comeback by the Algona Bulldogs’ softball team fell one run short as the red-and-black dropped a 5-4 non-conference decision to the Saint Ansgar Saints on Thursday, June 15.

The home team plated one run in the bottom of the first inning and two more tallies in both the fourth and fifth stanzas for an early 5-0 advantage.

Eischen, Slagle power Algona past Cardinal

GARNER—Jensen Eischen and Tate Slagle both had big nights to help lead the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team to an 8-5 non-conference victory on Tuesday, June 13 over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals.

Eischen came on in relief to pitch 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win to go along with two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in a pair of RBI.

Golden Bears blank Central Springs 15-0

 

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan scored in every inning on Tuesday, June 13 in a 15-0, four-inning non-conference baseball victory over the Central Springs Panthers.

The black-and-gold pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first, tacked on six more in the second, added three tallies in the third stanza and ended the contest early with four runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.

North Union runs past Bison 10-0

BANCROFT—A huge seven-run fourth inning led the North Union Warriors’ baseball team to a 10-0, six-inning Top of Iowa Conference win on Wednesday, June 14 over the North Iowa Bison.

The green-black-and-silver also scored a single run in the first stanza and ended the contest early with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the sixth frame.
