Wildcats get 7-4 win over Bulldogs
HUMBOLDT—Jacob Thurm belted a pair of two-run homers and pitched four shutout innings on Monday, July 13, to lead the Humboldt Wildcats to a 7-4 North Central Conference baseball victory over the Algona Bulldogs.
The blue-and-gold improved to 9-5 overall on the year and are 4-1 in conference play while the Bulldogs fell to 7-8 overall and finished at 4-3 in North Central Conference contests.
The red-and-black got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, cutting the lead in half with a two out rally. After the first two hitters were retired, Cameren Rindone drew a walk, stole second and scored when Aaron Weringa reached on a two-base error. Weringa cruised home on an RBI single off the bat of Tyler Manske. Jensen followed with a single and Manske went to third on a throwing error. Carlos Gomez pinch ran for Eichen and got in a rundown trying to steal. Gomez stayed in the rundown long enough for Manske to score as Algona cut the lead to 6-3.
