A photo tribute to the late Jess Weishaar, erected in the back of a pickup, led the parade lap for each of the six features at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday evening.

Weishaar Memorial draws 29 hobby stocks

ALGONA—A field of 29 hobby stock cars competed in the first annual Jess Weishaar Memorial along with the Mid-Summer Shootout for the first place prize of $1,000 at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, July 30.

The night was dedicated to Weishaar who was senselessly murdered in an attempted bank robbery in Lu Verne within the past year.

A total of 85 cars were in the pits, including 15 stock cars, 14 modifieds and 13 sport mods.

In the hobby stocks, Cody Nielsen took over the top spot on the sixth lap. Once out in clean air, the Spencer driver, who has dominated the class at the track all season long, was never threatened, and he earned his sixth feature win of the summer at the oval and another $1,000 payday.
