Veterans Night draws season highs

ALGONA—The fourth annual Salute to Veterans Night at the Kossuth County Speedway continues to get bigger every year and on Thursday, July 23, it brought a season high in both the car count and dirt track racing fans in the grandstands.

The big evening is dedicated to honor veterans who have given their service to protect the rights Americans have today, and it attracted a season-high total of 124 cars, including 33 stock cars, 31 sport mods and 26 modifieds.

The night began with a standing ovation for the numerous veterans who were sprinkled among the huge crowd, a salute to local law enforcement parked on the front straightaway with their vehicles and a flyover with two bomber airplanes.

On the oval, the fans were treated to a great evening of dirt track racing that saw a little bit of everything – a car on its side, a car rolling three times before jumping the fence in turn number three and of course some great racing.
