North Union shoots past Wolverines
North Union built an early lead and gradually pulled away to earn a 44-25 boys’ basketball victory over the West Bend-Mallard. The non-conference regular season finale for both squads took place at West Bend on Friday, Feb. 10.
Trent Pedersen scored the first two baskets of the game before a three-pointer by Jeff Riesenberg got the home team on the scoreboard.
The visitors answered with two straight hoops before Thad Fogarty scored two baskets late in the stanza as the Warriors led 8-7 at the end of the first period.
A hoop by Dan Riesenberg gave the purple-and-gold its first lead of the evening to open the second quarter.
With the score tied at 13-13, the green-black-and-silver got two three-pointers by Riley Bauer and a basket by Eythan Blair to take the lead at 20-13.
The Wolverines got two successful foul shots from Jeff Riesenberg as the two squads headed into the locker room at intermission with North Union leading 20-15.
The game remained close until the visitors got back-to-back treys from Nathan Eaton and Bauer to increase its advantage to 30-17 with 3:11 left in the third quarter and led 34-22 at the conclusion of the third period of play.
The Warriors got into the bonus early in the fourth quarter along with making some shots to extend its lead and went onto the 44-25 non-conference victory.
