Froehlich wins Showboat Open
Ross Froehlich had been close to winning the annual Showboat Open before. But this time, first place did not get away from him although it took two extra holes for the Algona native and Bishop Garrigan graduate to earn the victory.
Froehlich rallied on the 27th hole with a birdie to force a sudden death playoff as leader Andrew Lallier had a double bogey on the final hole to him a chance in the golf tournament held in conjunction with Algona Founders Day celebration at the River Road Golf Course on Sunday, July 9.
“It feels really good, it has been a long time coming,” said Froehlich after the playoff. “I been close a couple of times and I finally got it done. I played well the first round but I just could not get any putts to fall. The second nine I played well but I had one bad hole."
