Five players return to girls all-area hoops squad
The 23rd edition of the Kossuth County Advance Girls All-Area Basketball Team is highlighted by a pair of first-team all-state freshmen. The squad of seven returns five players from last year’s unit, including five young ladies that earned all-state honors.
Three players on the first unit scored over 1,000 points in high school, and all three underclassmen will probably cross the milestone next season.
This year’s talented crop of first teamers poured in 2,567 points in 177 games for a scoring average of 14.50 points per game. The group connected on 958 of 1,902 shots from the floor overall for 50.3 percent.
The squad could also score from behind the three-point line, hitting 191 of 571 triples for 33.4 percent and connecting on 460 of 716 free throws for 64.2 percent.
The team yanked down 1,000 rebounds for an average of 5.64 boards per outing, passed out 348 assists, registered 371 steals and blocked 162 shots.
