Fair race draws season-high 108 cars
Bringing out six-foot tall trophies and $1,000 to the winners seems to draw the best of dirt track racing as a season-high total of 108 cars signed in at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, Aug. 3 in front of a nice crowd in the grandstand during the Kossuth County Fair.
The evening of racing was sponsored by Cook’s Scrap Iron, Retutzel Excavating, Algona Pumbing and the Kossuth County Cattlemen.
A trio of drivers found the winner’s circle for the first time this summer at the track while three of the evening’s feature races went green-white-checkered once the race began.
The stock car class had the most exciting race of the night as the 12-car field was led to the green flag by Bruce and David Wickman. Bruce Wickman grabbed the early lead as point leader Jake Masters stayed right on his bumper the first few laps.
