Cold-shooting dooms Warriors
Ice-cold shooting in the second half proved to be costly for the North Union Warrior boys’ basketball squad as the team dropped a 54-36 decision to the West Hancock Eagles.
The green-black-and-silver led 28-25 in the third quarter before giving up a 12-0 run and going without a score for over five minutes in the Class 1A semi-final contest played at Britt on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Dylan Eckels opened the game’s scoring with a basket that was followed by hoop from Seth Weiland for an early 4-0 lead for the home team. But the Warriors answered with the next six points from Riley Bauer, Trent Pedersen and Elliott Hagebock to lead 6-4 with 3:10 left in the period.
Five straight points from Weiland gave the Eagles back the lead at 9-6 before the visitors scored the last two baskets of the stanza by Eythan Blair and Pedersen to hold a 10-9 advantage at the quarter break.
