Continually moving closer to 2017
We’re halfway through December, meaning that Christmas is 10 days away and a new year is just around the corner.
For us in the newspaper business, we are always thinking about ways that we can improve our publications. When a new year comes around there are always new ideas and new energy that is generated in the newspaper world. It’s all about evolving, changing and making our products even better than what they are today.
In this issue you will see the first of several changes that will be coming in 2017. During the third issue of each month, we will be having a page dedicated to “Healthy Choices.” In today’s issue is the unveiling of this new page focusing on those who have made changes in their lives to make their lives better. The feature will also focus on businesses and organizations that are finding ways to make a healthy choice for their employees, as well as discussing issues and challenges in our daily lives.
Thank you to Scott Curtis, the administrator of the Kossuth Regional Health Center, for his remarks introducing this new edition to the Algona Upper Des Moines. A special thank you to those who have made a commitment to sponsor this new endeavor.
This first issue focuses on Bishop Garrigan High School teacher and football coach, Marty Wadle, who has incorporated a plant-based diet to help his battle with diabetes and heart issues. His story tells us that if we want, we can all make healthy choices in our lives.
It just doesn’t happen. It requires a commitment to change. Sometimes the hardest part of making a change is the fact that it is easier to continue down the same road that we are used to.
A new year allows us to focus on things that we want to improve on — be it our personal lives or in this case a newspaper. We have plans for major change in 2017 for the Algona Upper Des Moines. We will unveil the changes as they come along.
I will tell you that we have set our goal for 2017 to “grow our newspaper and to provide service to readers and advertisers.”
For now, sit back and enjoy the first installation of “Healthy Choices” and be prepared for more to come in 2017.
