Violet Gerber

A funeral service for Violet Gerber was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, Algona. Visitation was from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Violet Leona (Simpson) Gerber was born Dec. 14, 1921, in rural Minnesota, the daughter of Carson and Chloe (Davis) Simpson. She grew up in Wesley and attended school through the sixth grade. She then worked in homes around Wesley doing childcare and cleaning.

Melvin Von Bank

A memorial mass for Melvin Von Bank was held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 14, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:45 p.m., on Monday, May 13, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church.
Melvin "Fritz" Charles Von Bank was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Irvington, the son of John and Christina (Kenne) Von Bank. Melvin attended Sherman District #3 country school through the eighth grade and then began working.

Joyce Macek

Joyce Macek, age 81 of Algona, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society-Algona. Funeral services were Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Algona with the Rev. Cynthia Finn officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation was Thursday, May 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lentz Funeral Home, Algona, and on Friday until one hour prior to the services at the church.

Eleanor Hildman

Eleanor Ruth Hildman, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Dutton) Koppen was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Algona. She grew up in Cresco Township, moving to Livermore where she attended grade school. They moved to a farm near Lakota where she graduated from high school in 1944. Following school, Eleanor worked in Algona at Kent Manufacturing.

Jay Graham

Jay Graham, age 64 of Burt, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was born July 17, 1954.
Memorial visitation was 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 10 at the Lentz Funeral Home in Burt, with a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m. Military Rites were conducted by the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425 of Whittemore.

Dennis Van Hove

Dennis L. Van Hove, 55, Nashville, Tenn., died May 2, 2019. His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Dennis was born on July 26, 1963, in Britt, to James Wendel Van Hove and Joanne Lavonne (Schueler) Van Hove.
He was a 16-year employee of Vanderbilt University Operator Services in Nashville.

Zane Crawmer

Zane Crawmer, age 14 of Algona, passed away May 2, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Visitation was 2-6 p.m., Sunday, May 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Eugene Wagner

A funeral mass for 88-year-old Eugene Wagner was held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Burial followed at the West Bend Cemetery.

Beverly Helmers

Beverly Joyce Helmers, 85, died peacefully Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Comforts of Home in River Falls, Wis.

William Lindgren

Funeral services for William “Bill” Lindgren were at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the First Presbyterian Church in Algona with the Rev. Walter Reemtsma officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.

Vivian Carroll-Steven

Vivian Irene Carroll-Steven was born June 11, 1923, in Dallas, S.D., the daughter of Timothy and Alice (McElroy) Moffitt. She grew up in Gregory, S.D., the seventh of 14 children. After graduating from high school, Vivian received her teaching certificate and taught school for two years in rural South Dakota.  

Shirley Haverly

Shirley J. Haverly, 81, of Humboldt, peacefully passed away Thursday morning, April 25, 2019, surrounded by her children at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Shirley was born September 21, 1937, on a farm north of Wesley to Fred and Laura (Hauptly) Eden. She grew up in Wesley where she attended country school and graduated from Titonka High School in 1954. She then attended Mankato Commercial College before working at the Wesley drug store.

Phyllis Fandel

A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 3, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Whittemore. Visitation was from 4:30 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, May 2, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Whittemore. A rosary began at 4:30 p.m., and a scripture prayer service at 7 p.m.

Margaret Beardsley

Margaret Ann Beardsley, 97, died March 17, 2019, in Austin, Texas.
A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m., Friday May 3, at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.
Margaret was born to Charles Howard Beardsley Sr. and Mary Florence (Collins) on July 24, 1921, in Algona.

Kenyon Gabrielson

Kenyon Eddy “Gabby” Gabrielson, age 71, of Biloxi, Miss., passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, in Biloxi.

Keith Block

Keith John Block, the son of Wallace and Bertha Block was born Aug. 7, 1939, in George. He attended Storm Lake High School. On Aug. 21, 1960, Keith was united in marriage to Marlene Klocko in Pocahontas.
