A funeral Mass for Frances Weber, 107, of Wesley was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Visitation was Monday, July 22, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Amy Jean Boehm, 86, Clear Lake, passed away July 22, 2019, at MercyOne Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.
Memorial services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 26, with Rev. Al Berge, pastor, and Rev. Barb McCaulley officiating. Inurnment will be at the Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Titonka.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

A funeral Mass for Donald Lappe was held Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. A Celebration of Life for Mason Cederwall, 22, of Algona was held Saturday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at O.B. Laing Middle School Auditorium in Algona. Officiating were Brock Youngren and Todd Hessel, pastors from Algona Evangelical Free Church. His family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the auditorium.

A funeral Mass for Mike Schmit, 84, of Algona was held Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with a scripture prayer Service beginning at 6:30, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.

Joan Louise (Leonard) Malkmus, 86, of Humboldt, formerly of Livermore, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019.
Joan was born on June 26, 1933, in Algona, Iowa, to Walter and Edna (Rath) Leonard. She graduated from Vernon Consolidated School near Renwick. Joan was united in marriage to Peter F. Malkmus in Livermore on Jan. 26, 1953.

Kurt Alan Frideres, age 56, passed away June 25, 2019, in Lakewood, Colo.
Kurt was born July 5, 1962, to Kenneth and Betty (Lensing) Frideres in Algona, Iowa. Kurt owned and operated Kurtz Electric in Brighton, Colo., for 26 years. He was married to Nikole Hewes in 1993; they later divorced. An avid Harley motorcycle enthusiast, he, along with his cycling friends, traveled much of the United States and the Colorado mountains.

Frances Wilberg, age 94 of Fenton, passed away Monday, July 8, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Memorial services were Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong with the Rev. Lauri Boysen officiating. Burial was in Blakjer Lutheran Cemetery of rural Seneca. Visitation was Saturday at 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Lentz Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.

Douglas “Doug” Ackerson was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Algona, the son of Marvin and Esther (Luedtke) Ackerson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fenton. He grew up in Fenton, graduating from Sentral School in 1967. Following high school, he attended Iowa Lakes Community College for two years. He then worked a short time at Bruhn Builders before going to work for Hormel in Algona for 40-plus years. He retired from Hormel in 2011.

Shirley Mae Maahs Wood was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to parents Ralph Ankeny and Ida Margaret Rhine. She married Eldon “Sonny” Maahs July 15, 1956; they were married 35 years until Eldon passed away Sept. 8, 1991. Shirley married Elton Wood Nov. 22, 1997; they remained living in Whittemore until her death.

A funeral Mass for Dale Menke, 73, of Burt, was held Wednesday, July 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carter Scott VFW Post #5236 of Burt.

Irene Ruth (Laabs) Wolf was born July 7, 1921, in rural Fenton, daughter of Reinhold and Martha (Mienke) Laabs. Irene died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Algona Manor Care Center. She was 97. A visitation was from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Bancroft. A graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft.

Donna Jean Gillispie passed away on June 27, 2019, in Fort Collins, Colo. She was 76 years old and passed away following a hard-fought battle with stomach cancer.
Donna was born in Algona, Iowa, on May 14, 1943, to William M. and Marion Knoll. Donna was raised on the family farm with her siblings. Donna married Roger Frink in 1962 and had two daughters, Tara and Shawna. Donna, Roger and the girls moved to Florida in 1968.

Funeral Services for Calvin August Vaudt, age 93, of Fairmont, Minn., were at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, Minn.  Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Fenton, Iowa. Military honors were provided following the funeral at the funeral home by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222. Visitation was 5-7 p.m.
