Kay Smith, age 71 of Algona, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020. Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona, with the Rev. Cynthia Finn officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.
Kay Lucille Harkness, the daughter of Charles and Wilma (Clark) Harkness, was born June 8, 1948, in Forest City. She worked as a crossing guard and then became a CNA at Algona Manor Care Center, retiring in 2011.

A funeral mass for Bonnie Thilges, 81 of West Bend, was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 3, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Visitation was 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, at the church. A rosary was recited at 3:45 p.m. prior to visitation.

Jason Reding, age 44 of Sioux Falls, S.D., and formerly of Whittemore, passed away on Dec. 28, 2019, at the Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Visitation was 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Lentz Funeral Home of Algona followed by memorial services at 2 p.m.

Linda Bunkofske, age 76 of Burt, went to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. Her final days were spent at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, at Algona Faith church.  Burial will take place in the Burt Township Cemetery.

Jean Larsen, age 73 of Humboldt, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services were 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt.

Ordean Marion “Shorty” Olson was born March 9, 1947. Shorty died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minn. He was 72.

Nancy Kay (Johannsen) Boyer passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at SunnyBrook Assisted Living Center in Carroll. Services will be held at a later date.
Nancy was born on Dec. 17, 1935, in Davenport to Hugo and Gertrude (Guldner) Johannsen. She married Richard Boyer on Nov. 23, 1956, and together they were blessed with three children, Patricia, William and Mary.

Diane Trenary, age 65 of Humboldt, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. Burial was in Our Saviours Lutheran Cemetery. A funeral Mass for John Mescher of Fort Dodge was held Saturday, Dec.21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with burial in Calvary Cemetery. John died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Unit following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75.

Richard Elsbecker, age 87 of Algona, passed away on Dec. 19, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of the Christian burial was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with the Rev. Ed Girres celebrating. Burial was in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft. Visitation was 4:30-7 p.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, with a 7 p.m. Scripture Service, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.
