Emogene (Jean) Burns passed away peacefully at Northcrest Living Center on Feb. 11, 2022.

Emogene Anna Mertz Burns was born on April 9, 1926, in Ottosen, to John and Margaret Mertz. 

She graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1944 and later joined the Cadet Nurse Corps Program at Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1944, graduating in 1947.

September 18, 1960 - February 8, 2022

A Funeral Mass was held 11 a.m. Feb. 12, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Inurnment followed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.

June 6, 1937 - February 11, 2022

Robert (Bob) Paul Ludwig, 84, of Whittemore, passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2022. 

Bob was born on June 6, 1937, in Ottosen, the son of Elmer Henry Ludwig and Grace Rose (Nellis) Ludwig. On Nov. 2, 1964, he married Shirley Ann (Simonson) Ludwig in Algona. The couple spent 57 wonderful years together. Bob was a Veteran of the Navy and an active member of the Seely Walsh Post #425 American Legion in Whittemore.

A memorial service for Jason Cobb will be held Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Wesley. Visitation was held Feb. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Wesley and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Following the memorial service the Celebration of Life for Jason will continue at the Wesley Community Center.

December 13, 1923 - February 3, 2022

Dorothy (Hildreth) Matthiesen, age 98, of Indianola,  died peacefully Feb. 3, 2022, at The Village retirement community of Indianola.

Dorothy was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Dexter, Minn. to George D. and Esther (Lehman) Hildreth. She grew up in the Des Moines area, farmed near Curlew, and lived for 54 years in Fenton before moving to The Village in Indianola in 2002.

Burial will be held in East Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Hagg-Turner Post #90 and the V.F.W. Post #2451. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Feb. 4, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.

June 6, 1939 - January 31, 2022

Thomas Reding, age 82, of Algona, passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters on Jan. 31, 2022, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines. Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Cecelia in Algona. Burial was  in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joseph, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard. 

March 7, 1937 - February 5, 2022

Lois Darlene Hansmeier, 84, of Corwith passed away Feb. 5, 2022, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center.

 Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Feb. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Corwith with Pastor Denise Lindemann officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m., Friday at Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair.

July 14, 1944 - January 26, 2022

A funeral Mass for Mick Cruise, 77, of Wesley, was held Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Inurnment was held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted. 

September 27, 1929 - January 25, 2022

A public visitation for Janice Allen of Whittemore was held at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Private family services with inurnment at East Lawn Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials will be directed to Hospice of the Heartland or the Kossuth County Animal Rescue in Jan’s memory. 

April 4, 1926 - January 26, 2022

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 12, 2022, at Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka. Burial will be in the Ramsey Reformed Church Cemetery. Memorials can be made in his name to Beyond The Still, a non-profit out of Bancroft helping Veteran groups.

A funeral Mass for Doris will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. The funeral will be livestreamed on the Divine Mercy YouTube page. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft.
