It is with great sadness that Bradley Rick Bitterman a/k/a “Big Dawg”, age 46 of Neenah, Wis., passed away peacefully on May 5, 2018, with his family in his heart. Brad courageously battled esophageal cancer for over two years. There isn’t anyone who wouldn’t say he was the strongest, bravest, selfless fighter there ever was!

Colette Frances (Venteicher) Fischer daughter of Herman and Catherine (Kraus) Venteicher was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Willey. Colette grew up in Willey, where she received her education. She then attended Iowa School of Cosmetology in Des Moines. After she graduated she worked at the Janell Beauty Shop in Des Moines. After she left Des Moines she worked at the Hannasch Beauty Shop in Carroll.

BURT — Esther Schrader, age 97, of Burt, died on Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona, with Rev. Cynthia Finn and Rev. Walter Reemtsma officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Algona.

ALGONA — Funeral Mass for Francis Platt will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Girres officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #2541 and American Legion Hagg-Turner Post #90. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Berniece Irene Looft was born Aug. 3, 1939, at home in rural East Chain, Minn., the daughter of Noble and Irene (Reed) Overfield. She attended school at East Chain, Minn., until her family bought and relocated to a farm near Scarville. This is where Berniece grew up. She was a member of the Scarville girls basketball team, a sport she loved. She graduated from Scarville High School in 1957, then worked at the local grocery store.
 

Richard Steward, age 80, of Burt, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.  Memorial services will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Lentz Funeral Home in Burt, with Walter Reemtsma officiating.  Visitation will be 6:00 PM am until service time at Lentz Funeral Home in Burt. www.lentzfuneralhome.com

Margene M. (Illg) Duffy, of Shoreview, Minn., formerly of St. Joe, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2018. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Her family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass at the Church on Saturday. Inurnment will be next to her father at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joe.

BANCROFT — A funeral Mass for Ed Schiltz, 83, of Bancroft, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft with his grandson, the Rev. Jeffrey Dole officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Church with a Rosary beginning at 4 p.m.

TITONKA — Roger was born to Ross and Elna (Christensen) Buffington on Sept. 1, 1933, in rural Titonka. He attended Doan Country School and graduated from Titonka High School in 1951. He entered the Army in the fall of 1953 and served in the Korean War.

ALGONA — A funeral service for Charlene Hertzke, 88, of Algona, will be held Thursday, April 26, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Algona. Her family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota.
Charlene passed away on April 21, 2018.
