Wilma Roeber

Jan. 10, 1927 — Feb. 8, 2017

 

Wilma Katherine Alvina Roeber was born on Jan. 10, 1927, the daughter of William F. Dau and Anna D. (Drewes) Dau. She was born again through Holy Baptism on Feb. 6, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. 

After being instructed in the teachings of the Christian faith Wilma confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ on April 6, 1941, at St Paul Lutheran Church, Whittemore, Iowa.

Wilma grew up in Whittemore and attended St. Paul Lutheran School through eighth-grade before going on to graduate from Whittemore High School on May 4, 1945. She continued her education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and went on to work in Chicago.

Wilma married Melvin R. Roeber on Sept. 14, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. She served as Whittemore’s Deputy City Clerk from April 1, 1951 through April 2, 1986, and as City Clerk from April 3, 1986, until her retirement on Jan. 13, 1989.

She was an active, life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, playing cards (whether it be 500, Euchre or most especially Bridge), baking (she was well-known for her cream pies and chocolate chip cookies) and visiting with her many friends and relatives.

Wilma was a resident of Concord Care Center, Garner, from Sept. 17, 2012, to March 17, 2015, and Westview Care Center, Britt, from March 17, 2015, until she went to live with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.

She is survived by her son, David and wife Jody Roeber of Garner, and daughter Lana and husband Greg Johnson of Stevens Point, Wis.; grandchildren Daniel (Ashley) Roeber, Matthew Roeber, Katharine (Jared) Bargman, Melody Johnson, Kelsey Johnson and Benjamin Johnson; great-granddaughter Ophelia Roeber and sister Luana (Dau) Bernau.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin Roeber, six sisters (Edna Meyer, Ella Dau, Linda Jergens, Eldora Zumach, Alice Meyer and Vera Roeber), one brother (Victor Dau), twin sons Kerry and Terry Roeber and granddaughter Mekela Sue Johnson.
