Funeral services for Wilbur Christensen were Wednesday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at the Titonka United Methodist Church with Rev. Todd Hartsock officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery.
Wilbur Harold Christensen was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Algona, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Bentley) Christensen. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Titonka High School in 1947. After his schooling he began farming.
On Dec. 23, 1950, Wilbur was united in marriage to Arlene Hagg at the First Lutheran Church in Algona. The couple farmed south of Titonka for a time and then lived in South Dakota and Minnesota for a number of years. They moved back to the family farm south of Titonka in 1968.
Wilbur enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, visiting with friends over coffee and selling real estate. He was an active member of Doan Methodist Church near Titonka, where he was a trustee, taught Sunday School and served on the pastor-parish relations committee. He also served on the Kossuth County Extension Council.
Wilbur died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society – Algona. He was 89.
He is survived by his children, Carl Christensen and wife, Kathy, of Sullivan, Ill.; Carol Ostercamp and husband, Kevin, of Brandon, S.D.; Alan Christensen and wife, Christa, of Titonka; Arlyce Farrow and husband, Tony, of St. Germain, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Wendell (Esther) Christensen of Wesley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; great-grandson, Owen Shramek; and a brother, David Christensen.
