A funeral service for Violet Gerber was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, Algona. Visitation was from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Violet Leona (Simpson) Gerber was born Dec. 14, 1921, in rural Minnesota, the daughter of Carson and Chloe (Davis) Simpson. She grew up in Wesley and attended school through the sixth grade. She then worked in homes around Wesley doing childcare and cleaning.
On Dec. 15, 1939, Vi was united in marriage to Lloyd Gerber in Wesley. The couple farmed with Lloyd's father until 1947 until moving to their current farm outside of Algona. She was always a faithful wife and partner on the farm.
Vi loved flowers, gardening and helping others. She was always there to lend a hand. Vi was also very active in the church, serving many different rolls. She was a member of the Evangelical Church in Algona.
On Nov. 24, 2010, she became a member of Good Samaritan Society - Algona and died there on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
She is survived by her children, Judy Rosenberg of Alpharetta, Ga., and Dave (Kathie) Gerber of Lu Verne; grandchildren, Matt Rosenberg, Jon Rosenberg, Claire (Dave Brock) Gerber, Anne (Charlie Rohwer) Gerber, Aaron (Laura) Gerber; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Heimdahl of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lana; son, Russell; son-in-law, Zachary Rosenberg; and five siblings.
