A memorial service for Viola Metzger will be held at 4 p.m., on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m., on Saturday. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Viola Mae (Potthoff) Metzger, 86, passed away peacefully at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg surrounded by her family.
Viola entered this world on Aug. 30, 1932, in rural Bancroft. She was the daughter of Gustav and Hilka (Timmer) Potthoff. She attended school in Lakota and was raised with three siblings.
On Jan. 22, 1952, Viola was united in marriage to Duane Charles Metzger and they had three children. They made their home north of Algona before buying a farm and moving to the Lotts Creek area. They farmed for 50-plus years.
She was a hardworking farm wife until retirement. She loved old-time dancing with her husband, gardening and flowers.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Conley (Diane) Metzger of Lone Rock and Gloria (Dan) O’Leary of Emmetsburg; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Hilka “Helen” Potthoff; husband, Duane; son, Darwin; great-granddaughter, Harley; brothers, Vern and Ray; and sister, Helen Schwartz. Online condolence may be left at www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com.
