Velma Wood, age 85 of Livermore, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore, with the Rev. Steve Struecker officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Livermore. Visitation was 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Velma Mae Ober, the daughter of Clyde and Blanche (Bass) Ober, was born on Aug. 4, 1933, in Stratford. Velma graduated from Stratford High School in 1950. On July 11, 1954, Velma married Duane Wood at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore. She had worked in health care at the Humboldt Hospital. Velma was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was in a bowling league, the Old Settlers Association and the Community Club. She enjoyed Tri Chem painting, quilting, hunting Indian artifacts, fishing, puzzles and crafts. In her later years, Velma enjoyed cooking with the love of her life, Duane, and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Left to cherish Velma’s memory are her daughters, Linda (Billie) Scott and Jennifer (Rich Shimon) Rolland; grandchildren, Christel (Scott) Becker, Dustin (Andrea) Scott, Austina (Matt) Reetz, Bryson Scott, Eric (Amy) Rolland and Emily (Justin) Shapiro; great-grandchildren, Macy, Rylie and Livvy Becker, Parker and Mallory Scott, Kiana and Domanic Reetz, and Trevor and Ty Rolland; special foreign exchange student, Lucia DeGrande Lopez of Sao Paulo, Brazil; siblings, Laraine Corey, Lenard (Joyce) Ober, Esther (Willie) Santi and Pam (Denny) Heun; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Donna Ober, Dave Hickle, Erma Ohnemus, Kathryn Ernst, Janice Bruhn and Warren (Ann) Wood; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Dean, Phil, Milford, Dale and Jerry Ober; and sisters, Louise Churchward, Charlotte Neal and Jane Hickle.
