A funeral Mass for Tom Becker was held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will in Calvary Cemetery.
Thomas Lawrence Becker was born Sept. 27, 1952, in Algona, son of Vincent and Lorraine (Auchstetter) Becker. He grew up on a farm southeast of Bancroft graduating from St. John’s Catholic School in Bancroft in 1970. He then studied for one year at Divine World College in Epworth. Tom returned to Bancroft working at Kienitz Decorating. In October of 1971, he began his 39-year career at Snap-On Tools working in many different departments and making many very good friends.
Tom was married to Ann Marie (Dahlgren) Jahr on Dec. 4, 1982, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. They made their home there until 2011 when they moved to Algona to be near their children. Tom had a great passion for trivia, history and especially sports. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, a Minnesota Vikings fan and ISU fan. He loved 70’s rock and roll music.
Tom died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society Algona at the age of 65. He had been a resident there since December 2015.
He is survived by two children, Jodi McGuire and her husband Kevin of Algona, and Tim Jahr of Swea City; and four granddaughters, Ashley Courtney and husband Steven of Algona, Hilary Kollasch and husband Matt of Whittemore, and Grace McGuire of Algona, and Morgan Jahr of Spencer; and three great-grandchildren, Evalynn Courtney and Charlie and Meredee Kollasch. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathy (Dr. Chris) Haeckler of Crocket, Texas, Dennis (Ruth) Becker of Bancroft, Jane (Jeffrey) Linn of Golden, Colo., Mary (Dr. Mark) Fedder of Collinsville, Ill., and Donna (Jon) Laakso of Bemidji, Minn.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Eric (Lupi) Dahlgren of Ft. Collins, Colo., Scott (Judy) Dahlgren of Ft. Collins, Colo., Janet (Tim) Blood of Eugene, Ore., Carla (Gary) Rienken of Boulder Junction, Wis., and Dale (Shirlee) Dahlgren of Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ann on March 18, 2013.
