A funeral Mass for Steven Schindler was celebrated Nov. 25, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Girres presiding. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Steven Michael Schindler was born Feb. 15, 1962, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, Neb. He was the son of Max and Darlene (Heithoff) Schindler. Steve grew up on the family farm in rural Elgin, Neb., being the ninth child out of 10. He loved helping his siblings with farm chores and spending quality time together as a big family.
He graduated in 1980 from Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School and excelled at athletics, boxing, and especially wrestling, making several appearances at the state level. Steve went on to attend college at Hasting Community College and then University of Nebraska-Lincoln before beginning his career.
On June 13, 1987, Steve was united in marriage to Deborah Thill at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Following their marriage, they lived in Gretna, Neb. Steve worked various jobs before being employed at Nebraska Furniture Mart. In 1989, they moved to Algona, Iowa, on the Thill family farm. For the last 28 years, he has worked for Farmers Cooperative Elevator, formerly known as Thermogas and farmed part time.
Steve loved to teach his children and grandchildren all that life had to offer. He enjoyed all things in nature including fishing, hunting, boating and motorcycling. You could always find him cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and ready to share a joke or a descriptive, action-packed story. He was an active member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Steve died Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 57. Steve was a great listener and was known for finding joy in all the little things. He was humble and kind and was always exploring life’s greatest adventures. Steve was an inspiration and role model to his children and grandchildren by continuously demonstrating his love and guidance. Giving more than receiving, Steve’s character will never be forgotten.
