ALGONA — Funeral Mass for Richard “Dick” Ringsdorf was celebrated on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Wind officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #2541 and American Legion Hagg-Turner Post #90 of Algona.
Richard “Dick” Allen Ringsdorf was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Titonka, the son of Clifford and Lillian (Godfredson) Ringsdorf. He grew up on a farm near Titonka and graduated from the Titonka High School in 1952. He went on to attend Hamilton Business School. Dick served in the U.S. Army for two years. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Algona area.
On March 29, 1956, Richard married Shirley Hentges in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage they lived in Algona and Dick worked at Home Federal Savings and Loan until 1981. They later moved to Ames where he owned and operated a Servpro franchise. Dick then managed an elderly living complex in Huxley until they moved back to Algona in June of 1996.
Dick enjoyed golfing, playing cards and cribbage, playing guitar, woodworking and in his younger days playing in the men’s softball league. He was a member of the American Legion, Chips Off The Block, St. Cecelia Parish and a past member of the Lions Club.
Dick died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona. He was 82.
Survivors include his children, Richard Jr. and JoAnne Ringsdorf of St. Louis; Cindy and Steve Kollasch of Algona; Randall and Rhonda Ringsdorf of Creston; Robert and Sue Ringsdorf of Davenport; Ronald Ringsdorf and fiancé, Gail Erickson of Algona; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Elbert of Mason City; Bonnie and Ron Zittritsch of Morton, Ill.; Terry Ringsdorf of Omaha, Neb.; Shirley and Peter Smith of Texas; brother-in-law, Gene Blanchard of Spencer and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford; mother and step-father, Lillian and Jack Porter; wife, Shirley Ringsdorf; infant grandson, Joshua; sisters, Beverly and Tom Zittritsch, Jan and Kirk Struthers, Jane Blanchard and brother-in-law, Charles Elbert.
