BANCROFT — A funeral Mass for Maxine “Mickie” Mulligan was held on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft with the Rev. Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
Maxine Kay “Mickie” Mulligan was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Algona, daughter of Chester Arthur and Mary (Carroll) Penton. She grew up in St. Benedict graduating from Lu Verne High School. Mickie was married to Kenneth Mulligan on February 21, 1955, at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Mickie and Kenny were blessed with six children, Vickie, Steve, Kelly, Dan, Nancy and Julie. They operated Mulligan Insurance and Real Estate together for many years. Kenny often affectionately referred to Mickie as “the secretary”. They enjoyed traveling together and spending their winters in Arizona. They proudly served as Grand Marshals in the 2012 Algona St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Mickie loved being with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church being active in the Altar Society, she was a member of the Red Hats and the Kitchen Klatter Band.
Maxine K. Mulligan died Wednesday, Oct, 4, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center, Bancroft at the age of 82. She had been a resident there since 2014.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenny Mulligan of Bancroft; five children, Vickie (Roger) Godfredsen of Milford, Steve (Teresa) Mulligan of Bancroft, Dan (Allison) Mulligan of Mesa, Ariz., Nancy (Brian) Hatten of Bancroft, and Julie (Phil Goche) Laubenthal of Bancroft; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Jeannie Simons of Whittemore, and Joan Erpelding of Algona.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kelly Mulligan on June 23, 2015; her parents; her step-father, Art Rosenmeyer; four sisters; and two brothers.
