Mary Enid Bormann

February 24, 1930 – July 20, 2020


A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Sts. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church in West Bend for Mary Enid Bormann, 90 of West Bend. Burial followed in West Bend Cemetery. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. July 23 at Harris Funeral Home in West Bend.

Mary Enid, daughter of George W. and Izma (Tucker) Montag, was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Estherville, Iowa. She was raised and educated in West Bend, Iowa, attending Sts. Peter & Paul’s Catholic School through seventh grade and graduating from West Bend High School in 1947. Enid then enrolled in business school in Mason City, Iowa. She was employed by Standard Oil in Mason City upon completion of her studies. Enid eventually moved back to West Bend and began working at Iowa State Bank.

Enid was united in marriage with Richard Bormann July 11, 1951, at Sts. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church in West Bend. The couple made their home on a farm north of West Bend where they raised their two boys. She and Richard moved into the town of West Bend in 1966. In the 1970s, Enid worked at a variety store, which she eventually owned and operated. After Enid sold the store, she devoted herself to full-time homemaking.

Enid was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Ladies Aid. Richard and Enid enjoyed dancing and traveled to many ballrooms. Her grandchildren will remember her for her ice cream Jell-O and scotcheroos. She had a love for teddy bears and Christmas decorations.

Enid died Monday, July 20, 2020, at West Bend Health & Rehabilitation in West Bend. Survivors include her sons, Harry and his wife Deb of Cylinder, Iowa, and Brian and his wife Cindy of West Bend; grandchildren: Jason (Val) Bormann, Sarah McCullough and her friend Brad Hill, Jennifer (Tim) Swift, Adam (Kaitlin) Bormann, Braden (Emily) Bormann, and Emily (Brad) Schick; great-grandchildren: Tyler (Melissa) McCullough, Halle and Kaleb McCullough, Ava, Lily, Will, Anna and Mara Swift, Payton and Hayden Bormann, Daniel Bormann and Luke Bormann; great-great-grandson Eli McCullough; and sister-in-law Marge Montag of Mankato, Minn. Enid was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard in 2010, grandson-in-law Kevin McCullough and brother William Montag.
