Funeral services for Marlyn Struecker were held Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Schlund officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post #2541 and the American Legion Hagg-Turner Post #90 of Algona.
Marlyn Kaye Struecker was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Algona, the son of Werner and Aleen (Bollinger) Struecker. He grew up in Algona where he attended school and graduated from the Algona High School in 1964. Following his schooling, he enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his honorable discharge, Marlyn returned to Algona.
Marlyn drove a semi for Bituminous Supply Company for 20 years before going to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 20 years. He also would help some farmers out in the Algona area.
He enjoyed driving his semi, hunting, fishing, bowling and riding his motorcycle. Marlyn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Marlyn died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home in Algona. He was 72.
He is survived by his two daughters, Laurie and husband, Dave LeRoux of Richmond, Texas, Cindy and husband, Celt Allum of Pocahontas; three grandchildren, Amanda Saijas, Charles and Hannah Sweeney; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Kaidyn Saijas. Also surviving are siblings, Terry Struecker of West Bend; Bahne Struecker and wife, Diane of Algona; Danny Struecker of Cass Lake, Minn.; Arlon Struecker of Cass Lake, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Aleen, and a sister-in-law, Marge Struecker.
