Marjorie Nyman

BANCROFT  — Funeral services for Marjorie Nyman were held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City with the Rev. Sam Belz officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Township Cemetery in Bancroft.

Marjorie Viola Nyman was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Algona, the daughter of Nels and Mabelle (Telning) Nelson. She was raised on a farm five miles southwest of Lakota and attended country school. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Swea City and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft. She graduated from the Lakota High School and from Waldorf College in 1945. Marjorie taught first and second grades at Rake for two years and second grade at Swea City for three years.

On Sept. 2, 1950, Marjorie married Wayne L. Nyman at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft. They farmed the Nyman family farm and raised six children. In 1957, Nyman Radio and TV business was started and Marjorie was the bookkeeper until retiring.

She liked to fly with Wayne in their plane and he showed her how to use the controls in case of emergency. One of Marjorie’s greatest joys was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and cooking delicious meals for her family.

Marjorie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft until it closed in 1974 and then she became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted and later transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City. She taught Sunday School, served on the church council and was active in WELCA. She was a lifelong member of Modern Mixers, American Legion Auxiliary and the Bancroft Historical Society.

Marjorie died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Bancroft, Iowa. She was 92.

She is survived by her children, Darrell (Marlene) Nyman of Bancroft; Douglas Nyman of Bancroft; Arlen (Janet) Nyman of Algona; Debra (David) Klinge of State Center; Dwayne (Linda) Nyman of Bancroft; Ron (Vicky) Nyman of Fairmont, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dale Nyman and cousins.

Her parents; husband, Wayne; grandson, Justin Nyman and a sister-in-law, Miriam Nyman, preceded her in death.
