A funeral Mass for Magdalena “Maggie” Zeller was held Wednesday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Edward M. Girres officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in rural Bode.
Magdalena E. Zeller was born Dec. 21, 1928, in St. Joe, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Lentsch) Kramer. Maggie was raised east of Whittemore where she attended country school. On Jan. 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Alfred Zeller. They farmed and raised their children north of St. Joe, retiring in 1998 and moving into Algona.
Maggie loved playing cards, especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing and quilting, and working in her garden. Maggie was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a current member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Riverdale Ladies Club.
Maggie died on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Algona Manor Care Center at the age of 90.
Survivors include her four sons: Donald of Bode, Gary and wife Lisa of Bode, Duane of Humboldt, and Gerald and wife Lisa of Bode; a daughter-in-law, Diane Zeller of Bancroft; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred on April 23, 2011; a daughter, Karen; a son, Mike; a sister, Lucille Walstrom; and three brothers, Urban, Clarence and Ray Kramer.
