Lynne Zimmerman, age 61 of Whittemore, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore with Rev. Sunny Dominic celebrating. Burial took place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft.
Lynne Marie Zimmerman was born in Bancroft, Iowa, to Stanley and Rosina (Schneider) Hatlestad on Jan. 26, 1958. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Bancroft in 1976. In the following years, Lynne attended Mankato State University. On April 21, 1995, Lynne was united in marriage to Michael Zimmerman in Whittemore. Lynne worked for the United States Postal Service, for which she was a postmaster until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Legion Auxillary. Lynne adored all of her family, especially her grandchildren, and she formed a special connection with each one. She loved spending as much time as she could with them including attending their sporting events, and she rarely missed a game. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. She also enjoyed quiet evenings at home with Mick.
Lynne is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Mick of Whittemore; her daughters, Jessica Welp of Mason City and Melissa (Shannon) Woodyard of Algona; sons, Dan (Amy) Welp of Algona, Asa Blakesley of Ames and Stan (Jessica) Blakesley of Algona; stepdaughters, Tracie (special friend Jeff Elbert) Hoch of Evanston, Ill., and Misty (Clint) Dobson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; stepson, Ryan (Abbie) Zimmerman of Algona; grandchildren, Weston, Jaxon and Tate Woodyard, Landon, Ella and McCain Welp, Sophia Thompson, Elisabeth (Shane Grimm) and Madison (Levi Eden) Hoch, Owen and Kaylee Zimmerman, Emrik and Adalee Meyer, and Dash Dobson; her sister, Cathy Kelly of Lakota; brothers, John Hatlestad of Spokane, Wash., Mark (Bobbie) Hatlestad of Malcolm and Bill Hatlestad of Fort Dodge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Rosina Hatlestad; parents-in-law, Harold and Lois Zimmerman; brother, Craig Hatlestad; nephew, Mike Kelly; and great-nephew, DJ Kelly.
