Lawrence Wayne Norem, age 81 of Algona, passed away on Nov. 10, 2019, at his home in Algona. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Thursday Nov. 14, at the Lentz Funeral Home in Algona, with Rev. Bill Black officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. until service time on Thursday at Lentz Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Carlisle, Ark.
Lawrence Wayne Norem, the son of Lawrence Joseph and Alice Mary (Miller) Norem, was born on Oct. 24, 1938, in Center Creek Township near Granada, Minn. In 1956, he graduated from Granada High School in Granada, Minn. On Feb. 20, 1960, Wayne was united in marriage with Ruby Mae Shumski at the Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain, Minn. He had worked as a groundskeeper supervisor for Pathfinder in Jacksonville, Ark. Wayne enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with his grandchildren, scenic drives through local parks and campgrounds and stopping for ice cream.
Left to cherish Wayne’s memory are his children, Bonita Jean Highfill and her husband Dennis of Plainview, Ark., Deborah Marie Recker and her husband Gary of Lu Verne, Penny Lorraine Vitzthum and her husband Kevin of Algona and Kenneth Wayne Norem and his wife Denise of Goldfield; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Tierney of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; and a son Kennard Norem.
