John H. Boeckholt
A funeral service for John H. Boeckholt, 71 of Burt, will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Burt Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kent Madison officiating. Burial will be in German Valley Cemetery in Titonka. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the church and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
John Hiram Boeckholt was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Titonka, son of Harley and Gladys (Gifford) Boeckholt. He grew up on a farm near Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School. John was married to Marlene Johnson on May 10, 1975, at Bethany E&R Church in Titonka.
In earlier years, John worked at the Burt Co-op where he managed the lumber yard. He then worked as a salesman for 20 years at Kemna GM, retiring in 2013. John served on the Burt City Council for the past 35-plus years. He attended Burt Presbyterian Church and was a faithful leader of a Bible study group. John was a great neighbor helping out many people in his community. He was an avid sports fan especially enjoying the Iowa State Cyclones, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. He also loved woodworking and fishing.
John died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, at the age of 71.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Burt; four children and a granddaughter, Ryan (Shelly) Boeckholt of Mason City, Ramsey Boeckholt of Chicago, Ill., Brice (Amanda) Boeckholt of Algona and their daughter Harper, and Lexa (fiancÈ Tyler Mawdsley) of Des Moines. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (Mark) Zwiefel of Titonka; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Marshall of Algona; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Johnson and wife Nancy of Whittemore, and Jerry Johnson and wife Becky of Bancroft; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
