Funeral Mass for Joseph King was celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at 2 p.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Girres officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Joseph Thomas King was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Jack Creek Township in rural Emmet County. Son of James and Marie Schuler King, Joe attended rural Palo Alto County schools through eighth-grade and graduated from Graettinger High School in the class of 1949. He then attended junior college at Emmetsburg. Joe helped on the family farm until 1953. He also worked in road construction across the state of Iowa. Joe married Ann Marie Kollasch on Dec. 29, 1953, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore. Joe and Ann farmed in Union township living on the family farm until his death.
Joe was an active community member serving on the Sentral Community School board, and past member of Kossuth County Pork Producers. Joe was a faithful member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a volunteer on many committees especially the fair stand and religious education. He was a board member of the Union Township committee.
Joe was a proud father of four children: Teresa (Mrs. Mark) Bollig, Patricia (Mrs. Bill) Kollasch, Charles (Ann Finken) King and Larry who died on Oct. 7, 1993. He was delighted to be the grandfather to Monica, Brad and Kelly Bollig, Claire, Max and Sam Kollasch, Jonathan and David King and, Dorey and Lakeisha King. He was especially blessed to see the birth of nine great grandchildren.
Joe loved to attend his children and grandchildren’s activities. He was a devoted fan of Sentral athletics through the years. Joe enjoyed fellowship with others as enjoying morning coffee at The Chrome or Lone Rock café and elevator.
Joe and Ann exemplified the life of a farm family. Devoted to one another and the farm, they enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage. Faith and family were the center piece of the life they made together, a wonderful example to family, friends, and neighbors.
Joe died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 86.
Joe is survived by his children, Teresa, Pat and Chuck, brother Don King of Kearney, Neb. and Katie Thilges of Algona also with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, his son Larry, parents James and Marie, brothers John and Frank, sisters Donna and Mary Ellen.
