Jesse Arthur Shore

Jesse A. Shore, 82, of Manchester, Tenn., passed away on Jan. 2, 2017.
He was born in Algona on March 1, 1934, to the late Glenn and Mertie Shore. He graduated from Algona High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army prior to receiving his BS degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Iowa. His 30-year career with the Army Corps of Engineers gave him the opportunity to pursue his passions for travel and various space projects, including the erection of the NORAD observation center in Colorado and the launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
His last years were spent working at the AEDC, a U.S. Air Force base near Manchester, where he fell in love with the land and people of Tennessee.
Jesse was an avid reader, music lover and enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed volunteering at his church, woodworking, investigating family genealogy and spending time with family. He was a devoted Christian and a 50-year Mason.
He is survived by: his brothers William Shore of Davenport, Clifford Shore (Shirley) of Rock Island, Ill., his brother Bruce survived him by only 18 days, passing away on January 20; his sisters Mary Moon (Jerrold) of Yuma, Ariz., and Caroline Tharp (George) of Waterloo; 21 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Harriett, a niece, Mary Beth Shore and a great niece, Whitney Jordan. A combined memorial service for Jesse and Bruce will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Saturday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Internment of ashes will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or Prudence Masonic Lodge in Algona.
