James Francis Hurlburt

Graveside services will be at Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021, with Pastor Jim Dewar, officiant.
James Francis Hurlburt, son of Alfred and Marjorie (Tucker) Hurlburt, was born on Nov. 27, 1938 in Alliance, Neb. He passed away on July 11, 2021 at Mayo Health Systems- Mankato, at the age of 82 years.
Jim graduated from Terril High School and then attended Estherville Junior College. He earned his bachelor of science degree from a college in Kansas City. Jim began his career as a mechanical engineer at Railway Motors in Fairmont. He later was employed with Sperry Univac in the Twin Cities, from which he retired. Upon his retirement he worked various jobs to keep busy before moving back to northwest Iowa. In Iowa he helped his brother-in-law and sister farm.
Jim loved to be outdoors; hunting or fishing were his favorite things to do. Jim was a very spiritual man, a man of the word. He enjoyed studying the bible and participating in bible studies. The highlight of his life was the trip he took to the Holy Lands with Franklin Graham. He shared his caring nature to others while participating in the Big Brother program.
Jim attended First Baptist Church in Bancroft. He also served with the Army National Guard for many years.
Jim is survived by his children, Michael Hurlburt and family and Melanie Underwood and family; his sisters Nancy (Eldon) Haas of Arnold’s Park, Joyce Kramer of Winner, S.D., Kathy Hurlburt of Swea City and many nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by special cousins Carol Fritz and Earl Wayne (Linda) Tucker.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Marjorie, and his paternal grandmother Ida Nelson.
The family requests no flowers; memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Bancroft, Iowa.
