He attended Iowa Lakes Community College and then the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1971 with a B.S. in business administration. Jack was married to Twylla Renee Volding July 1, 1972, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa.
He worked in manufacturing for 26 years before deciding he needed a change and started Garden’s Gate Nursery & Landscaping. A couple of years after starting the business, Jack was offered an opportunity to sell nursery stock, where he found his true passion. After the nursery was absorbed by its parent nursery and shut down, Jack came back to Garden’s Gate to help Twylla.
He loved fishing, making many trips to Leech Lake in Minnesota and several trips to Reindeer Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada. Jack also enjoyed hunting, playing cards and dancing. He loved his classic Mustangs, restoring the ’68 convertible to a trophy winner.
Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Twylla; an older brother, Charles F. Baker and wife, Jan; niece, Michelle “Shelly” Kemp and husband, Mark; nephew, Timothy Baker and wife Marie; two great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
