Gertrude Evelyn Richter
Funeral services for Gertrude Richter were held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Titonka United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery.
Gertrude Evelyn Richter was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Lu Verne, the daughter of George and Ann (Stauffacher) Attig. At a young age, they moved to the Titonka area where she attended rural school in a one-room schoolhouse.
On Jan. 18, 1940, Gertrude was united in marriage to Leo Richter at the Methodist Parsonage in Britt. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Beverly Jane Richter. They were very proud of her and all her accomplishments in life. At the time of Leo’s passing in 2003, the couple had been married 63 wonderful years. They lived in the same house in Titonka their entire married life. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.
Gertrude worked as a waitress for 33 years at the Kountry Kitchen in Titonka. When asked the secret to a long life, Gertrude would always say, “good, clean living and hard work.”
She enjoyed working in her garden, baking, doing embroidery and keeping her house clean. Her biggest joy was spending time with friends and family. She and Leo loved to travel to visit Beverly and Jim and grandsons, Marc and Steve. They went on many adventures together. Later in life, she got to enjoy her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Beau. Gertrude was a kind soul with a big heart.
Gertrude was a faithful and active member of the Titonka United Methodist Church, serving in the United Methodist Women for over 50 years and teaching Sunday school for 25 years.
Gertrude died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. She was 105.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Jim Brauhn of Linn Grove; grandsons, Marc Brauhn of Ocheydan and Steve and Rish Brauhn of Sioux Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Beau Brauhn; niece, Joyce Goranson; nephew, Eddy Attig; other extended family: and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo on Dec. 19, 2003; daughter Beverly Brauhn on Sept. 18, 2005; and four brothers, Clarence (Anna) Attig; Everett (June) Attig; Eldon (Lila) Attig and Melvin Attig.
